MANILA, Philippines – The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) held the oathtaking of its newly elected officers and governing bodies on March 18, 2026, administered by Ferdinand Marcos Jr., President of the Philippines, in ceremonies at Malacañang Palace.
Inducted are the members of the KBP Board of Trustees composed of Herman Basbaño, Chairman; Butch Canoy, Vice Chairman; and Ruperto Nicdao Jr., President; Joselito Yabut, Executive Vice President; Alfredo Henares, VP-Television; Noel Galvez, VP-Radio; Fr. Manuel Bongayan, Treasurer; Albert Sikat, Secretary; and members Lorlyn Garcia-Velarde, Erwin Galang and Raul Dela Cruz.
Also taking their oath are the officers of the KBP Standards Authority, the body responsible for enforcing the KBP Broadcast Code and upholding ethical standards among member organizations. The Authority will be led by Enrico Canoy, Chairman; Cherryl Adami-Molina, Vice Chairperson; and Jaime Trinidad, Secretary.

The induction highlighted the continuing importance of the KBP as both a trade organization and a self-regulatory body for the country’s broadcast industry, particularly in a rapidly evolving media environment shaped by digital transformation.
Established in April 1973, the KBP has more than 52 years of successful self-regulation, during which it has worked to upgrade the standards of broadcasting and journalism in the Philippines. Through the consistent implementation of its Broadcast Code and professional standards, the organization has demonstrated that self-regulation within the media industry can work effectively in promoting responsible broadcasting and protecting the public interest.
With the democratization of content creation brought about by digital platforms, the challenge of disinformation and the need for credible and responsible media have become even more pronounced. In response, the KBP has taken steps to strengthen its self-regulatory framework by extending its jurisdiction to include the digital content of its members, ensuring that the same standards of professionalism and responsibility apply across both traditional broadcast and digital platforms.
The organization has likewise revised its by-laws to allow content producers operating in both traditional and digital media to become members of the KBP and be subject to the organization’s Code of Ethics, reinforcing accountability and responsible content practices across the broader media ecosystem.
The KBP also reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with the government in advancing various national advocacies, including public information campaigns, disaster preparedness, voter education, and other initiatives that serve the public interest.
As the media landscape continues to evolve, the KBP said it will continue to strengthen ethical standards, promote responsible broadcasting, and support the role of credible media in fostering an informed and engaged citizenry.
